Illinois Music Education Association
Students in grades 10-12 have the opportunity to participate in the musically enriching experience of auditioning for the ILMEA (Illinois Music Education Association) District #7 Senior Chorus. The highest scoring students from the audition process may also qualify for the All-State or Honor's Chorus.
Interested students must let Mr. Schiffer know their intent to audition by early September.
2017-2018 ILMEA Dates
Senior Chorus Auditions: Monday, October 2nd, 2017 at Crystal Lake South High School
Auditioning students will be assigned a room and time.
District #7 Senior Festival: Saturday, November 11th, 2017 at Glenbrook North High School
Selected students from the audition process will participate in the festival clinic which lasts all day. This will culminate in a 3pm performance of the ILMEA District #7 Senior Band, Senior Chorus, and Senior Orchestra. This year's District #7 choral clinician has yet to be announced.
All-State Concert: Saturday, January 27th, 2018 at the Peoria Civic Center
The highest scoring of all students in Illinois get the chance to participate in either the All-State Senior Chorus or the Honors Senior Chorus during the All-State Concert at the Illinois Music Education Conference.
The audition for ILMEA Senior Chorus includes performance of excerpts from two prepared selections (one state selection and one district selection), sightreading and tonal skills (scales/triads). Students are scored on a 100 point scale based on the following criteria:
- 40 points are based on your ability to sing the prepared music.
- 28 points are based on your tone quality.
- 16 points are based on tonal skills (triads and scales)
- 16 points are based on sightreading (you sing one 4-measure example)
NOTE: The procedure for sight reading has slightly changed this year.
